SPORTS & ACTIVITIES Tour de France July 1-23, 2017 We couldn’t delve into the world of sporting events without mentioning the most famous cycling race in the world. The 104th edition of the Tour de France starts in Düsseldorf, Germany, before taking participants 3,500km across France to conclude in the Champs-Élysées, Paris. La Fête Nationale July 14, 2017


Known as ‘Bastille Day’ outside France, this national holiday commemorates events set in motion after the storming of the Bastille in 1789. A year later in 1790, the Fête de la Fédération was held to champion national unity – and it’s this proud, patriotic spirit that’s exhibited in La Fête Nationale, also referred to as Le 14 Juillet, to this day. Numerous festivities take place around the country to mark the occasion:

In the morning, this long-held tradition formally heralds Bastille Day. Around 7,000 soldiers march down the Avenue des Champs-Elysées from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde, in an impressive procession that’s been upheld since 1880.
