A SUSPECTED knifeman has been arrested inMcDonald'sin Maidstone. Policewent to McDonalds inWeek
Street, Maidstone, at 5pm on Mon- day, June 26, after receiving informa- tion thatamanmightbein possession of drugs. Officers went to the scene and a
knife was recovered, along with a quantity of drugs and cash. A20-year-oldmanwas arrested for
being in possession of a knife and in possession of a controlled drug. En- quiries are ongoing.

Pupils have designs on Picnic programme
MOREthan 300 pupils from Maid- stone took part in an art competi- tion toshowtheir work at aYalding music festival. Competition organisers were
clearly impressed with the standard of entries, describing them as “fan- tastic”. First place overall went to Rosa Truong, a year one pupil at Senacre Wood Primary School, whose colourful picture of the festival field will be included in the programme for the Vicar’s Picnic. Organised by volunteers, the
event takes place on the banks of the RiverMedway at Yalding on July 14 and 15, and Rosa’s work will also be reproduced at the entrance to the field. The 23 other winners will have
their pictures displayed in a gallery at the festival. Second place went to Senacre
Wood year two pupil Ciara Collins, who drew a hare, and in third place was six-year-old Victoria, from St Margaret’s Primary School, Collier Street, with some dandelions, re- flecting the festival’s support this

year for the Dandelion Time charity, based atWest Farleigh. The three main prize winners re-
ceived a family ticket to the Vicar’s Picnic. There were so many entries from Allington Primary School, that judges created a special category and awarded one winner per class. Rebecca Howard, from Festival-
paradise.com, who co-ordinated the competition, said: “Therewere some really fantastic entries. “We have some very imaginative children in Maidstone –well done to them all.”
