MAKE TIME FOR
Ludlow...
You’ll need a healthy appetite in more ways than one when packing for Ludlow. It’s foodie reputation is second to none and it’s chocolate box appearance adds to the sheer delight of the place, but, this thriving, intoxicating medieval market town has so much more to offer than it’s renowned foodie scene. Pack your appetite for shopping and the great outdoors as that’s high on the agenda too!
If you’re partial to tapping into some great events and festivals when visiting a destination, then this is the place for you. With a local calendar that’s packed full of dates throughout the year that you won’t want to miss, Ludlow has a palpable buzz and is very welcoming to visitors. In November there’s the Antique & Collectors fayre right through to Local Produce events and Race meets, something for everyone to include theatre and live music too. It’s also enviably located, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh Marches, the town centre is situated on a cliff above the River Teme. For those who enjoy the great outdoors, this is an excellent base from which to explore all the official and unofficial walks and routes that Ludlow has to offer, or for those tempted to venture a little further afield, there’s the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ironbridge nearby.
It’s not just the scenery in Ludlow that’s pleasing to the eye, it’s the mixture of lovely architecture. Book yourself into one of the
boutique hotels or B&B’s, often housed in one of the period buildings; it’s not just the warm welcome and attentive staff that make your stay special, it’s the hearty breakfast after a great night’s sleep that will undoubtedly boast locally sourced ingredients, and will set you up for the day ahead.
Pack your credit card and get ready to do some festive shopping, with individual boutiques selling everything from antique and modern jewellery to the more unusual items not found on your normal High Street, Ludlow provides shoppers with delights on every level and the service you receive makes spending your money a pleasure.
Now, one of the many reasons why so many people flock to Ludlow is the foodie scene, for which it has earned itself a wonderful reputation. From Michelin food to cosy pubs serving home cooked grub, it’s an agricultural gem. Many of the delicious dishes and drinks served in the wonderful eateries will be made from locally grown produce. The producers across the area take pride in what they grow, and the eateries take delight in showcasing it off to its best! Each year The Ludlow Food & Drink Festival attracts visitors from across the UK and even internationally, 140 producers, ale trails and cooking demonstrations set against the backdrop of the Castle grounds are the draw, so pop it in your diary for next year, but savour the taste all year round when you visit.
