Television cook and actress, Lisa Faulkner graced our screens in shows including Holby City, Brookside and Spooks, before being crowned winner of Celebrity MasterChef. Lisa could certainly stand the heat of the kitchen, as it was here that she met her now boyfriend, John Torode. Seven years later, the foodie pair loves nothing more than sinking their spoons into the wonders of life. Lisa’s latest project sees her join forces with Belvoir Fruit Farms to craft a scrumptious collection of cake recipes. Celebrity Columnist Ellie Mainwaring caught up with Lisa from her kitchen over tea and cake.


Where in the world will you choose to be a castaway? The South of France, I just adore it there – the weather, the people, the views, the early morning markets and the fresh warm croissants. We visit every year and last year, John and I stayed at La Colombe d’Or in St Tropez as a special treat. We ate fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden, did yoga, read books, played in the pool and had friends and family to stay. The weather was beautiful and it was lovely to have all the children there, getting involved with the buying and the cooking of food. It really was a wonderful summer.


What animal or pet would you take? Our miniature Schnauzer, Rory. I was saying to a friend only yesterday that I thought we’d finally housetrained her. Then just to prove me wrong, she went and did a wee right in front of me. I love her to pieces, despite her naughtiness.


Name one possession you would leave behind for a loved one? My favourite pyjamas for John. Whenever John leaves the house for long periods of time, like when he’s away filming, he always leaves his favourite pyjamas for me to sleep in – it’s for comfort and I love it. Wearing his Pyjamas helps me sleep and I would want John to feel just the same while I was away.


What would be your luxury item? My phone so I can keep in touch with friends and family who I would miss dearly. Although, I wouldn’t want to keep


it permanently switched on. I think it’s really healthy to switch off and re-charge from time to time. We all deserve some ‘me time’.


What would be your last supper before departing? Roast chicken dinner with Yorkshire puddings and stuffing. Growing up, roast dinner was a must on a Sunday and it’s a tradition that both my sister Victoria and I have kept up with our families. When we get together it’s an excuse to cook extra and pile up our plates with generous helpings of delicious home cooked food. We all chip in and have our assigned duties – including the washing up!


Biggest memory item? One of my Mum’s old cookbooks that she has written in – a fond reminder of her


and the food of my childhood. I still cook from her cookbooks and use them for inspiration. I love to cook with my daughter Billie, who likes to pretend she is the host of her own cookery show. It’s wonderful that something as simple as food can bring people together. It makes me incredibly happy that I get to share this part of my life with my family.


What would be your wild card item? Without a doubt, it would be my daughter Billie. Castaway to idyllic lands with John, Billie and Rory! When can we go?
