LIVE24SEVEN // Focus On Tewkesbury KATIE HOUGH - ARTIST A passion for animals

Katie Hough, a Yorkshire born and Cotswold based artist, creates the most beautiful artwork of hares, horses, British wildlife and countryside scenes from her home in the idyllic hamlet of Conderton on the outskirts of Tewkesbury.

Using mixed media to create her artworks, favouring pastels, graphite and charcoal, it’s clear to see Katie’s passion for animals - every stroke appears to exude the very character of her subjects; the eyes are alive, the spirit, energy and movement captured quite astounding.

Predominantly working on commissioned artwork for clients throughout the UK and indeed Internationally, Katie finds great pleasure in seeing the joy on her customer’s faces when they view their artwork for the very first time… “It’s a wonderful feeling to see the look on a clients face when they open the artwork that I’ve spent so much time creating - to see the instant recognition of their beloved pet, the fond smiles and more often than not, tears! It really makes this the best ‘job’ in the world."

Katie has also developed an impressive body of work, with over 150 pieces available in a range of products including framed prints, greeting cards, luxury cushions and mugs. All products are available through her online shop, at local retailers and at events such as Countryfile Live, Your Horse Live and The Great Yorkshire Show.

Hares and Horses feature frequently throughout the range, and in her own words “it’s fair to say that I’m animal mad, nothing compares to my obsession with Horses and Hares - I can’t describe the incredible feeling I get when I see a wild Hare running through the fields or relaxing in the evening sunlight”. Katie’s greatest muse, a beautiful Belgian hare called Willow, inspired many of Katie’s hare pieces. Katie shares her life with many creatures such as her beautiful and bright working cocker spaniel called Skye (whom her partner is training as a Search and Rescue dog) and the magnificent Stozie, Katie’s dapple grey Andalusian Horse. Katie rides most evenings, often bumping into the fallow, roe and muntjac deer, owls and pheasants that feature so heavily in her work. The final magical touch comes in the form of a friendly local Robin, who is happy feeding from Katie’s hands and popping in an out of the studio as Katie works.

Alongside the commissions and new gallery pieces, Katie is preparing for a number of large exhibitions to showcase her works across the country. She also has plans for a new product range, which will be announced very soon via her website and social media accounts.

Katie invites all Live24Seven readers to enjoy an exclusive 30% discount off any of her prints and cushions purchased through her online gift shop using the voucher code LIVE24SEVEN. The full range can be viewed at www.katiehough.co.uk/gift-shop.
