Lockmeadow: At last, work now complete
THE new-look Lockmeadow En- tertainment Centre has finally opened – five months behind schedule – in a project that has taken a year to complete. Kames Capital, which owns the building situated next door to the town’s crown court, said it was pleased with the finished look of the renovated building. Kames said it represents a “multi-million pound investment” for the company which is now fin- ished, admitting unspecified “is- sues experienced by the contractors” were among the rea- sons for the delay. Ric Tsang, for Kames Capital,
which bought the building in De- cember 2015, said:“We’re delighted that the work to renovate and mod- ernise Lockmeadow has been com- pleted. “The leisure scheme now offers customers a vibrant, modern space with a wide range of tenants. We look forward to the continuing suc- cess of the venue as it goes from strength to strength.”Arecent sign-

ing for the site was in March 2017, when a Gourmet Burger Kitchen branch joined the list of tenants, which includes the town’s cinema. The redesign updates the 1990s building with a glass entrance and canopy, improvements to the front steps for better disabled access, while, inside, the ground floor has been refurbished and extra space created for the trampoline centre on the first floor. Anew illuminated Lockmeadow
sign on the front of the centre com- pletes the look. Planning permissionwas granted
for the site in 1996 and since then a number of different tenants have used the building for restaurants, nightclubs and leisure activities alongside its main draw, the town’s multiplex. Maidstone Borough Council ap-
proved proposals for the renova- tion work to be carried out on the basis that Lockmeadow had started to look tired and outdated. An MBC document stated: “Its current appearance is somewhat dated with a cluttered amount of advertising and large areas of bland brickwork.”
