This year we’re so excited to be opening the fesval with the legendary King’s


Singers. There's something for everyone in their programme ‐ from Orlandus Lassus' bawdy Renaissance humour, to the beauty of Romanc part‐song with music from Rheinberger, ending with some of the finest contemporary choral music and their own signature "party bag" of close harmony favourites. Special menon should go to Francis Poulenc's beauful prayers of St Francis and two pieces wrien especially for the group by renowned composer (and former King's Singer), Bob Chilco. We hope you’ll come and watch the group, that is said to represent "as much fun as you can have in public with your clothes on!" (Seale Times)


One of the great tenors of our me, Mark Padmore, is returning this year with a programme of Beethoven and Schumann. I simply can’t wait to perform these incredible songs with him. Schubert’s Winterreise with him last year was one of the highlights of my career. I’ll be playing some of my favourite solo piano works in this concert too.


The Elias Quartet, whose programme of Haydn and Bartok was such a huge hit last year, return as our ‘Quartet in Residence’. They’ll be playing Mozart’s E flat Piano Quartet and Brahms’ epic Piano Quintet with me and will joined by the Navarra Quartet for one of my favourite


programmes so far ‐ Richard Strauss’s sextet from his opera Capriccio, Schoenberg’s most popular work ‘Verklärte Nacht’, and surely one of the greatest chamber works ever wrien, Mendelssohn’s Octet. Wrien at the tender age of sixteen, it’s bursng with youthful exuberance and joy.


The Elias Quartet will also present our family concert. We’d really like as many children as possible to come along. It’s free for them and it would be such a shame for them to miss such a unique musical experience!


For our final concert our favourite clarinest Katherine Spencer will be joined by disnguished colleagues from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and other leading orchestras. They will perform Mozart’s Serenade for 13 Winds using period instruments. This sublime work features in the film Amadeus, where Salieri describes the beauty and delight of the solo oboe's entry in the third movement:


‘This was no composion by a performing monkey. This was a music I'd never heard. Filled with such longing, such unfulfillable longing. It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.’
