sudden heart attack and the packed church for his funeral bore witness to what a great guy he was. Nothing could have prepared us for the loss of Richard Andrews at the end of August 2016, only a few days after the summer rides session had finished, and more recently Colin Dalziel also passed on.

If Car Rides are to continue in their present form we urgently need more volunteers. As men- tioned earlier we require at least five before we can even start to run a car. Whilst we would not want to poach from other teams, if any existing volunteer or Brooklands Trust Member felt able to join us for one day per week for the 10 weeks that we run, whether as a marshal, taking dona- tions or assisting in the Paddock, we would love to hear from them (contact details in the Car Rides ‘Update’ near the back of this Bulletin).

be placed at the entrance and exit points of the Banking as well as at the foot of the Test Hill and by Concorde. With the relocation of the Shop to the Museum entrance the team became responsi- ble for the issue of tickets and collection of dona- tions. These changes meant that at least five non-driving volunteers were required if the rides were to take place.

The majority of the team members are now on

the wrong side of 70. As is inevitable some have had to retire and sadly some have passed away. Our ‘man in the box’ Eric Chambers succumbed to a long illness, bravely fought, a couple of years ago. Prior to that we had lost Nimrod Taylor to a

From the driving point of view, if any member has a suitable four-seat vehicle that can stand up to the rigours of the Banking they should get in touch. Obviously we cannot accept casual drivers. Anyone interested would need to be first vetted by the Museum, as are all volunteers, and undergo the usual training period.
