PRINT PRODUCTION TRACK | MONDAY, JANUARY 15
10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. End Goal: Brand Color Accuracy Scott Thompson, Vice President Global Color Management & PQM, sgsco
Brand owners demand consistency regardless of print process, substrate, and structure. While technology to convert color from one space to another has improved, further standardization is required to make the process more automated. Learn all about the challenges, realities, and solutions to managing color across a multitude of printing scenarios—with the end goal of achieving correct brand color.
11:10 a.m.–12:10 p.m. Expanded Gamut Separation the Right Way Birgit Plautz, Manager of Technical Services, GMG Americas
Expanded gamut has many benefits, including the ability to print more in-gamut spot colors, a reduction in the need for spot color plates and ink, and—of course—more colorful graphics! But how do you “get there” and properly specify and handle a file for expanded gamut printing? During this session, Birgit Plautz will guide you through the necessary steps to convert a file from RGB to an extended color gamut while achieving consistent, accurate color results.
1:10 p.m.–2:10 p.m. Analysis of Expanded Gamut Printing Steve Upton, President, CHROMiX, Inc.
Expanded gamut (EG) printing increases the overall range of colors that can be printed when compared to traditional 4-color process printing. Are XCMYK’s higher densities sufficient or are additional orange, green, and most violet inks a better path? Which parts of the color gamut are impacted? Steve Upton will graphically walk you through an explanation of EG and XCMYK versus just plain old CMYK, where spot colors fit in EG, and how it can affect neutrals and G7® calibration.
2:20 p.m.–3:20 p.m.
Production Inkjet: Get Great Color with Less Ink Dr. Mark Bohan, Director, Prinect & CtP, Heidelberg USA Inc.
High-speed inkjet is one of the fastest growing segments in the printing industry. Maintaining or improving color appearance while reducing the amount of costly ink hitting the paper is the “holy grail” for maximizing profitability. Can you really reduce ink consumption and still get the right color? Dr. Bohan will discuss what’s really possible, what’s not, and the techniques and options available for using less ink and getting great color.
