Scenic luxury yacht is selling itself

Lucy Huxley lucy.huxley@travelweekly.co.uk

River cruise operator Scenic says its new luxury ocean yacht Scenic Eclipse is already 20% sold “without even touching a button”.

The yacht, described by UK managing director Chris Townson as “the kind of vessel Roman Abramovich might own”, will have helicopters and submarines and is the best example yet of how the brand is constantly “breaking new ground”. It launches in August 2018. He said that it had taken four

years to develop but demand to sail on it was already strong. Speaking at a lunch for top

Oceania publishes dates for agents to experience product

Oceania Cruises has announced the dates of its summer ship visit programme, with opportunities to see Nautica, Marina and Insignia. Agents will be able to explore the ships, have a six-course lunch and meet some of the UK team.

agents and partners to celebrate the line’s 30th birthday, Townson explained: “We’re taking luxury to a new level with Eclipse. This is truly mega-luxury and it will go the whole way around the world. So, in Antarctica for example, instead of being on a Zodiac, our guests will be sat on board and we’ll send a helicopter to find out when the penguins are coming a mile before they arrive so we can be in the perfect position to view them. It will be soft adventure and experiential, but at a whole new level.” Townson revealed Scenic will also launch a series of Culinaire Cruises on selected river vessels next year, with top chefs running ‘immersive’ cookery classes. It will also put 30 extra top- of-the-range bikes on board

There are a range of dates

available, from July 15 to September 20. In addition to the 15 days

available across the UK and Ireland, Marina will be showcased at Clia UK and Ireland’s Luxury Cruise Expo on August 15 in Southampton. Bernard Carter, senior vice-

president and managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “We are delighted to offer

easier to sell when speaking from experience, and I believe this programme of ship visits will equip travel agents with the first- hand knowledge to increase their luxury business further still.” The line will also be working with select travel partners to invite their customers on board to enjoy the ships as well.
