EVERYONE’S A CRITIC

Don’t sleep on Turnstile,

hardcore fan By Kieran Zimmer

Groovy-hardcore group Turnstile has released a new EP, the infectious four- track banger Move Thru Me. The East Coast favorites opt for an if-it-ain’t- broke-don’t-fix-it for- mula, cranking out danceable riffs and mosh-worthy grooves in a manner as good (or better) than they ever have before. Opener “Come Back for More” features all of the band’s trademarks:

Riviera Supper Club & Turquoise Room: Thursday, 8pm — Man From Tuesday Friday, 9pm — Clint Westwood Saturday, 9pm — Blue Largo

Brendan Yates’s energetic screams, Daniel Fang’s upbeat and frantic drums, alongside fast, gritty, melodic riffs.

The EP also features a cover of “F!!k Me Blind,” originally by the Revolu- tion Summer revivalists Give. While Give’s song had energy, Turnstile’s

Groove-core East Coast group returns with four- song sampler

version pumps it full of something else entirely, delivering a unique sunny-yet-furious vibe. Besides the track “Blue by You” off of 2015’s Nonstop Feeling, this track features the clean- est vocals used by the band. Any fans of Turnstile, or hardcore in general, are doing themselves a massive disservice if they’re sleeping on this release.

Music Reviews from Our Readers

Tull by Anderson By Daniel Knighton

Jethro Tull the band may be on hiatus, or may be kaput, but Ian Anderson is keeping the name going. Jethro Tull: Written and Performed by Ian Anderson breathes new life into the band’s namesake, agriculturist and inventor Jethro Tull (1674–1741), by bringing him to modern-day farming amid social strife, climate change, and food shortages via video clips and song. Interacting with

performers on the screen using pre-recorded tracks, Anderson and crew play and sing on point. The pro- gressive style of music Jethro Tull (the band) has built its catalog on pairs quite well with the theatrics of Ian Anderson. His trademark flute in hand, Anderson opened the show with “Heavy Horses” and “Wind Up,” slowly bringing the audience into the fold, then getting them to their feet with a very heavy “Aqualung.” With the show clocking in at just over two hours, Anderson kept audience members on the edge of their seats with a mix of old Tull hits and a few new songs written for this show.

The band about a man is now a rock opera
