Landscaping tips and advice for your next garden project

By Dorothy Dobbie

Creating a well designed garden requires a lot of work, but it is well worth it in the end when you can enjoy the results. S

haping the land was the original role of the land- scaper; moving earth and rocks to create a design in the natural topography. This is still true, but modern

landscapers have a lot more to work with in terms of the hard features they can introduce to your yard, and they need a lot of knowledge to understand what will work and what will not. Your vision of what you want your yard to look like may be constrained by many issues, including such things as the orientation of your property to the sun and the wind. Landscapers come with different areas of expertise.

Some are more qualified on the plant side than others. Some are experts in dealing with the hard features and understanding how to ensure those features are long last- ing and attractive. While others are especially adept at installing water features.
