Throw off the duvet and have some fun


The extent of the excellent entertainment on offer at this time of year never fails to amaze me.


With so many events geared up for Christmas and inclement weather often plaguing a year’s early months, late-GMT hibernation is an option exercised by many.


This is a shame, given the wealth of activities taking place right here and now.


For confirmation, have a look at Editor’s Choice, which begins on page 11. Did you realise, for instance, that the International Garden Photographer of the Year Exhibition is taking place at Sissinghurst Castle throughout January and February?


Or that James Bartlett, the BBC’s reigning Young Musician of the Year, will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 12 alongside the Maidstone Symphony Orchestra on January 30? That very same day, in Tunbridge Wells, there is a winter lantern parade.


The following weekend, for music lovers of a different ilk, top names from the world of techno and house will be performing at the Winter Social in Detling, near Maidstone.


Before you know it Easter will be here, with an egg hunt in Belmont House, near Faversham, and the onset of spring week at Godinton House and Gardens near Ashford.


Were you aware of all this? If not, perhaps you should appreciate that these months contain as fun as any other and make the most of all our wonderful county has to offer.
