Feel-good shows to keep you warm through the dark months

Kent's theatres offer a colourful and fun- filled escape from the often cloudy skies above. Here we give you a guide to some of this winter's must-view shows.

Oh Goody! Tim Brooke-Taylor and Chris Serle

An unforgettable evening in the company of one of the funniest and best-loved comedy performers of our time as he discusses his long career with the writer and broadcaster Chris Serle. Tim Brooke-Taylor tells hilarious stories from a lifetime in comedy. This is an evening of warmth and good- humour spiced with anecdotes about many of the names Tim has appeared with, including his fellow Goodies Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie. Tim shot to international

stardom with the revue Cambridge Circus in the 1960s. A string of brilliant anecdotes includes Tim’s hesitant start in comedy as a schoolboy-magician, golf with Seve Ballesteros, directing Orson Welles in a feature film and an encounter with Eric Morecambe on a beach in Portugal. There will be clips of the funniest moments from his TV and film career. Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone. Saturday, February 13, 7.30pm

The Bodyguard Direct from its smash-hit West End run, The Bodyguard is coming to Canterbury for two weeks. Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge – what they don't expect is to fall in love. A breathtakingly romantic thriller, The Bodyguard features a whole host of Whitney Houston's greatest hits, including Queen Of The Night, So Emotional, One Moment In Time, Saving All My Love, I'm Your Baby Tonight, Run To You, I Have Nothing, Jesus Loves Me, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and one of the greatest hit songs of all time, I Will Always Love You. Fascinating Aida's Dillie Keane

Dillie Keane takes a short break from her Fascinating Aida gal pals to present a solo show. With brand new tunes,

grand old favourites, gorgeous songs of love and hilarious songs of utter wickedness, Dillie will break your heart, mend it again and have it sent to the cleaners for pressing. And she'll give you her

recipe for chutney while she's at it.

The Orchard Theatre, Dartford. Sunday, February 21, 7.30pm

Joe Brown in Concert

Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Joe Brown goes from strength to strength as his contemporary achievements continue to gather momentum. His Very Best Of album achieved a Gold Record for

120,000 sales and was in the UK charts for eight weeks, staying four weeks in the Top 20. In the same year, his 50th anniversary was celebrated with a sell-out show at the Royal Albert Hall. His new CD, The Ukulele Album, caused a similar stir and due to its success a deluxe version was later released. You may have seen Joe performing on Later With Jools Holland or at the cinema playing his part closing the show at the Concert For George Harrison. You may have witnessed his critically-acclaimed set at Glastonbury Festival or caught him on tour. Joe and his five-piece band will be on stage all evening.

Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells. Thursday, February 4, 7.30pm

I, Malvolio Think Monty Python and Blackadder as Tim Crouch shoves Shakespeare’s pent- up steward Malvolio into the spotlight to hilarious effect, turning the entire story of Twelfth Night on its head. Part abject clown, part

theatre-hating disciplinarian, Malvolio asks his audience to explore the pleasure we take in other people’s suffering. This is a show for anyone who has ever been told off, called a name or has fallen in love with the wrong person. Tim Crouch is one of Britain’s most innovative and respected theatre-makers — and a hugely experienced exponent of Shakespeare for young people.

Theatre Royal, Margate. Thursday, March 3, 7.30pm.
