Northdown primary school was established in 1971 and is situated at the top end of Cliftonville, Margate. The school is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) and currently has over 350 pupils attending.

At the end of the last Academic year, Kent Sport was delighted to be invited to Northdown primary school to look at the great work the school was doing

and to find out exactly why they had been presented with the Youth Sport Trusts’ Health and Wellbeing National Award.

Lisa Sparkes is employed as a full time PE co-ordinator/coach at the school and has been doing some sterling work for a number of years now. Lisa’s drive and enthusiasm have led to her being asked to speak at a number of conferences (both inside and outside of Kent) as well as helping other schools in the TKAT family improve their PE provision. The school belongs to the Thanet ‘Passport’ which offers a host of competitions, CPD

opportunities and numerous network meetings all co-ordinated by Suzanne Gough, Thanet’s School Games Organiser.

Mr Kendall (Head teacher) also incorporates the values of sport into everyday school life and there is a great appreciation of the power of sport within the school. Due to this, there has been a significant increase in academic results and attendance figures have dramatically improved.

But hey, don’t let us tell you; why not watch their story for yourself?
