played together, and 12 years later we’re still doing it.” It’s the perfect match, with Dave
handling the 60s and 70s classics, or, as he puts it, “the fun stuff”, and Tyler putting a modern spin on the set with everything from the Stones to Eminem. The result is a show for all
musical tastes, and after 12 years you still have to line up to get into the renamed “Fat Tuesdays” every Saturday night. Thursday nights they take their “Dueling Pianos” to The Marshes Golf Club. “Lounge Singer” is the tag that

comes to most people’s minds when you talk about a guy in a bar playing a piano. But that’s not Dave Kalil. “I’m a cover artist,” he says.
“The ‘lounge’ thing is background music for people gathered around a piano making requests. I’m always away from the people. I put on a show.” To emphasize that point, he says
he avoids playing the obvious tunes, and has never, ever, sung American Pie in public. Still, he knows what people want
to hear, which is the key to success in this business. He estimates he has about 300 songs in his head that he can drop into the set as he goes, and with Tyler there are at least 300 more. That takes away any of the “boredom syndrome”. Dave Kalil is living the sweet
life. During the day he is paid to play golf and socialize with his students. At night, he plays the music he loves to appreciative audiences at Fat Tuesday’s and The Marshes Golf Club. “These are two things I can do till
I croak, basically,” he says. I asked if he had any ambitions
to take a stab at recording or putting together a band to travel across the country. There was no hesitation. “I know what I am,” he said.
“I am good at what I do. I have no ambition to be an ‘artist’. I decided to be an entertainer”.
