Sam,39, of Oakdale, lost over2and half stoneand wants to shareher recipe for successwith others.


Havingbeen pregnant with twins Sam had gotused to being bigger,but it wasn’t long after the children were born that she startedputtingon weight.Acomplicated pregnancy followed by anon-stop daily routineandmedication to treatendometriosis, resulted in the pounds pilingon. It waswhen she had to look twice before recognisingherself in aphoto that Sam knewsomethinghad to change.

familyafter sevenyears, when her second attempt at IVFresulted in twins.She said the hardest thingaboutfertilitytreatment was the uncertainty-almost everythingisbeyond your control and evenwhen yougiveiteverythingyou’vegot,the outcome is never guaranteed.


“When the twins arrived, lifewas fantastic butlong, busy days (and nights!) meant it waseasytoget into bad habits when it came to what Iwas eating. Iwas embarrassed when Irealised that more than oneofthe local takeawaysrecognised me when I


called with our regular order. As the children got olderI’d spend time carefullyplanningand cookingfromscratchfor them whilst snackingoncrisps,biscuits or chocolatemyself.”


Sam wasaware that as her twins became more mobile and active, she wasputtingonmoreweight.Unhappywith her appearance, uncomfortableinher clothes and unabletoind an outit she felt good in,Sam faced up to the factthatsomethinghad to be done.


Havingtried the 5:2 fastingdiet forsix weeks with little success, Sam knew that she needed an eatingplan that wouldsatisfy a healthyappetiteand get results.Havinglost half astone with SlimmingWorld beforestartingIVF,Sam rejoineda local group and embraced SlimmingWorld’sExtra EasyFood Optimising Plan.

Icame across the ‘couchto5k’ runningprogramme -and although I’d neverreallydoneany regular exercise, Idecided to give it ago. I’m so proudofwhatI’veachieved. Inow run 5k twice aweek.I absolutely love it when the children say‘enjoy your run Mummy’ as Iset off.


Sam said that havingtoset her owntargetweight puther in control and made herreallythink aboutwhatshe wanted to achieve.


“I wasdetermined to be agood role model forthe twins but realised that Ialso wanted to lose


weight formyself too. With ayoungfamily, it’s notalwayseasyto ind time foryourself butgoing to groupbecame my weeklynight out, the supportand friendship helped me to stay motivatedand keep up to datewith newideasfor healthyrecipes and meals - and most importantlyhas helped me to keep the weight off.”


Herirststone wasgoneafter just5weeks and compliments from friends, familyand colleagues reallyboosted her commitment.In her irst twomonths Sam hadbeen Slimmer of the Week and Slimmer of the Month and wasnominated forWoman of the Year in 2014 forthe groupshe attended. Nowover2stone lighter and with apassiontohelp othersimprove their health and escape the unhappinessassociated with beingoverweight,Sam is relaunchingthe SlimmingWorld groupinCrumlin.


Iknowthatbeingunhappywith your weight reallyaffects how muchenjoyment youcan get from all other aspects of your life. As soonasIbegan losingweight and feelinghappier aboutmy appearance Ihad so muchmore conidence and energy. Findinga waytoloseweight and keep it off hasmade such adifference.
