Wednesday, April 22, 2015 Diverse catwalk

EVENT management students at the University of South Wales are to host a charity fash- ion shownext week to celebrate women of all shapes and sizes. The show is to take place at Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Tre- harris on April 28. Its aim is to send an important message to the public that beau- ty is found within, no matter of age, size or disability. The proceeds from the night

will be going to Follow Your Dreams, a national charity that inspires children and young people with learning disabili- ties to followtheir dreams. The show takes inspiration

following the news from this year’s New York fashion Week that sawJamie Brewer, the first Down’s Syndrome model grace the catwalk for designer Carrie Hammer as part of a Role Mod- els Not Runway Models show.

Speaking of howthis event in- fluenced the fashion show, Uni- versity of South Wales student Melissa Haggett said: “Myself and my group were truly in- spired by seeing how the media reacted to Jamie Brewer inNew York fashion week. “It was refreshing to see the fashion industry celebrate a woman who doesn’t fit within the stereotypical model look, but is still beautiful in her own way.

“Seeing how she was celebrat-

ed and praised for her bravery inspired us to put on our own show featuring women of all

shapes and sizes to celebrate the diversity of beauty.” Collaborating with the stu- dents and hosting the event will be style and body confidence coach Wenda James-Rowe, an advocate for celebrating wom- en’s natural beauty and per- sonal style. Ms James-Rowe said: “I work

with women from all works of life, helping them to reach their full potential. I’m extremely passionate about spreading the body confidence message. “This event is a fantastic plat-

form in which women can cel- ebrate the beauty of the skin they are in and I am delighted to be part of it.” Tickets for the event can be purchased by getting in touch with the event organisers at broganhaggett@hotmail.co.uk or by telephoning 07796 328275.
