THE body of a Blackwood man was found in a field, an inquest has heard. Neil Ralph, aged 60, suf- fered from arthritis which over the past three years had got progressively worse, an inquest at Gwent Coroners Court was told last Thursday. In the early hours of June

15, Mr Ralph was reported missing from his home by his partner, who told police she believed he was having a breakdown. At 5.17am that morning,

a 999 call was received by Gwent Police from a member of the public who had found a burned body in a field near Blackwood Rugby Club. CCTV footage showed Mr Ralph at a garage purchasing a jerrycan, some petrol and cigarettes a few hours before his body was found. Dr James Harrison, a con- sultant pathologist at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, carried out a post mortem examination on Mr Ralph’s body and concluded he had died as a result of ex- tensive burns. They were told develop-

ers will shortly be invited to tender to build a new health centre in the village. It is expected to provide

space for the two existing doctor surgeries with pro- vision for more than 5,000 patients. The scheme has been mooted for more than a decade and the health centre will replace out-of-date sur- gerieswhich exist at present, according to campaigners. Councillor Mann said: “This was a very positive and constructive meeting and we were told that the health

board is nowin the final stag- es before it goes out to tender for the new centre. “A developer is expected to

be chosen by August with the final plans going to the board at Aneurin Bevan in Septem- ber. The scheduled date for completion is around Octo- ber 2016.” Beci Newton, Plaid’s Caer- philly constituency candi- date for next month’s West-

minster election, who is a resident of the village, was delighted to hear the news. She said: “This is fantastic news for the people in the vil- lage, who have put up with out-dated facilities for far too long.” Plans for improved GP ser- vices in Llanbradach moved a step closer last year after the Initial Proposal Docu- ment (IPD) was accepted.
