Pupils star in a musical
CREATORS of this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod musical have been reunited three decades after the pair worked together on a simi- lar project as pupils. Morgan Hopkins and Sara Lewis will work on the second- ary musical for CaerphillyUrdd Eisteddfod 30 years after they first met as school pupils in the Cardiff 1985 Urdd National Ei- steddfod youth musical. Mr Hopkins is the director
of Chwarae Cuddio (playing hide and seek), with Ms Lewis as the scriptwriter. They were both part of the Merch y Blodau (Flower Girl) youth show in 1985, when they were both pu- pils at Ysgol Cwm Rhymni and Ysgol Rhydfelen respectively. Chwarae Cuddio is a contem- porary story that looks at how people play hide-and-seek with each other, especially on social media, by creating a persona to hide behind in order to be judgemental or nasty. Mr Hopkins, who is originally
from Bargoed, said: “The aim was to create a story that was relevant. I had a chat with the young people when I promised them I wanted the show to be about them and their lives to- day. “We have a fantastic group. I am also delighted to be working

a script I try to meet the young people in the show so I can tai- lor the showto the performers.” There are 30 young people in
the cast from YsgolCwmRhym- ni, Ysgol Rhydywaun and Ysgol Gwynllyw. The musical is in the Blackwood Miners Institute on May 24 and May 26.
