UV SYSTEMS

There’s No Stopping UV Systems

No one can dispute the breakthrough made by UV Systems over recent years. Manufacturers believe their success has been driven by public demand for better swimming environments which use less chemicals combined with a much greater understanding of how ultra violet systems work. But despite providing a better setting for swimmers, the economic return on installing such a system is still a factor. We take a closer look at the systems being offered By Jon Wadeson

T

he latest advances in UV disinfection technology mean that pool and spa users can have more confidence in the health of their wet leisure

environments. Traditionally, chlorine has been the favoured method of disinfection for pools but there has been a growing concern regarding the negative health impacts of chlorine and the by-products it produces. Driven by the public’s demand for pool environments that use less chlorine, the industry is now aware of the advantages that UV filters have on the treatment of pool water. It drastically increases bather comfort and promotes staff health by reducing the amount of chlorine needed to provide residual protection in the pool water.

UV systems utilise radiation from UV lamps to inactivate the cells of unhealthy or undesirable organisms by altering the DNA of these harmful bacteria, microorganisms and pathogens. The results are cleaner and safer sanitised pool water and a reduced need for chemical treatment.

UV TECHNOLOGY TO MEET

EVERY NEED Through Triogen, Golden Coast offers a variety of systems to meet different circumstances, ensuring that there’s always a cost-effective solution, whatever the circumstance.

systems, which are suitable for a variety of residential swimming pools and spas. TR2 incorporates a host of cost-saving features, including: automatic shutdown to conserve power in the absence of flow and a robust, hard-wearing, low-maintenance construction. The compact units have been designed for quick and easy fitting, so that installation is inexpensive. Each comes complete with union adapters, a pressure gauge and a flow switch, ready for simple connection to a suitably protected power supply. “While cost is a concern, particularly in the residential setting,” says Golden Coast Managing Director Jamie Adams, “the main benefit of switching to UV disinfection is improved water quality. It keeps algae, chlorine-resistant organisms and other unwanted life forms under control – without causing a harmful residual effect or leaving any by-product in the water.”

CERTIKIN’S EXCLUSIVE UV SYSTEM MAKES

Triogen’s Uvaray UV disinfection systems benefit from key technological developments including a specially tuned, broad-spectrum mercury lamp

available with Triogen’s Uvazone Advanced Oxidation System which combines UV irradiation with ozone treatment in a single self-contained package. Capable of treating pools from 150 to 1,500 cubic metres, it is an easy-to-install solution. Its compact size, combined with its low maintenance requirements and running costs make it a good choice for plant rooms. Triogen’s Uvaray UV disinfection systems benefit from key technological developments including a specially tuned, broad-spectrum mercury lamp which is housed in a polished stainless steel reactor. For large bodies of water, medium pressure UV treatment systems like this are becoming very popular. Triogen’s product line-up also includes a number of lower-cost alternatives to Uvaray, such as the TR2 range of low pressure UV

COMMERCIAL GOOD SENSE!

With an amazing guaranteed 12,000 hour lamp life, Certikin’s Commercial UV System far outstrips any competitor’s product in performance and longevity. With flows from 13m2

up to 850m2 , it is

suitable for temperatures up to 40°C and reduces chlorine dosage by up to a staggering 80%. It is simple to install and safe to use and very competitively priced. Environmentally friendly, the system’s UV-C radiation destroys the genetic structure of microorganisms and inhibits their ability to multiply, rendering them harmless. Bacteria and viruses in water, air and on surfaces are effectively inactivated. Unlike conventional chlorination processes, UV-C radiation eliminates viruses permanently.

The units are built to order and tailored to customer’s specifications.

A smaller range of units is also available for hotel, school and hydrotherapy use.
