SPRINGHILL PANTRY

Apricot & apple slice

A delicious oaty number, super yum crumbled over fruit salad, or with yoghurt. They’ve even added some chia seeds and cinnamon for extra nutrition. This is a pretty sustainable snack, with your afternoon tea or coffee or for the kids’ after school snack. When you’re running late for work, or school it could also be a cheeky substitute for breakfast. Yummy and nutritious, and made with real butter and other good ingredients. (This one does have preservative 220 in it, if that is a dietary concern.)

Raspberry & almond slice

Yum yum yum. This was my favourite slice of the range so far. The almond cake with raspberries, extra almonds and extra love. This reminded me of my nan’s cakes and slices. Simple ingredients combined lovingly, to create the delightful texture and flavour. The slight hints of vanilla and golden syrup in the background really make this slice a winner. It’s the perfect cheeky treat to share. I recommend warming it slightly before serving just to bring out those delicious flavours. Also there is something extra special about eating a warm slice, especially in these colder months, and especially this particular slice.

Springhill pantry is a family owned and run business, and their love shines through in their products. The rustic, homemade sweet treats are available at Hudsons coffee stores nationwide, selected IGA and health food stores in Victoria. You can also go to their website www. springhillpantry.com.au Get amongst it.

46 july 2014 SILLY YAKS SEA SHANTI

Seaweed crisps Awesome replacement for potato crisps! These products are hand made and seasoned, which becomes obvious when tasting. I noticed with the chili crisps the second packet (that’s right, the second packet) the chili was more intense, not overpowering, but just there nicely; different from packet to packet.

These crisps are hot rocks, ‘A timeless Korean tradition’ which really locks in the sea flavour. Packed with vitamins, minerals, flavour and yumminess!

Sea flakes

What a great addition to rice – plain rice, or brown rice, sushi rice and I think even wild rice! These little flakes of seaweed bring such a great flavour. We even ate them on their own, though sushi balls were the favourite. When added to a quinoa salad they proved outstanding. Sea Shanti products are a great condiment or snack for vegans, vegetarians and celiacs. Super high in essential vitamins and minerals.

Available from major health stores, Go Vita and About Life, Sydney.

Sea Shanti also donates 5% of their profits to SeaShepherd.

Lamb & rosemary pie Delicious, this is the pie I tried first. Because they are gluten and dairy free, I was a little apprehensive, but when it came out of the oven, its aroma filled the kitchen, the perfect balance of herb spice and delicious lamb! Gluten and dairy what! Who needs it?

Chicken pie

This pie will satisfy any chicken lover, any pie lover, and any other lover. The filling is a perfect combination of chicken gravy and herb. Very yum. A little peppery, but I found that it worked brilliantly.

Beef & red wine pie

Beef and red wine, rich, juicy, oh so tasty. Crunchy, crisp crust. Mouth-wateringly delicious filling. There is no way this pie needs anything else, especially gluten.

Pumpkin & basil pie

By the time I got to this surprisingly warming winter pie, I started to wonder where these guys have been all my life. These products make the thought of having to drop gluten from my diet a little more doable.

Silly Yaks products can be found at selected IGA stores, Go Vita and other health stores, plus Thomas Dux shops.

PUREHARVEST MILKS

Pureharvest milks are gluten free, lactose free, cholesterol free. They use no cane sugar, no artificial flavours, no pesticides, herbicides and say no to genetically altered products!

Almond milk

Rich, creamy, almondy milk – very nice with breakfast cereal, and delicious with oats. This milk has a really rich flavour and texture. Almond milk is rich in nutrients, fibre, magnesium, potassium, zinc and even calcium, though not as much as cows’ milk. For vegans or those who are lactose intolerant, this is a great alternative.

Oat milk

This milk is also very rich – and oaty. We used it to make Italian hot chocolates; it took some of the guilt out, being such a source of fibre, vitamin E and folic acid. Oat milk is proven to lower cholesterol and lowers the risk of heart disease – but maybe not so much if you’re using it for hot chocolate. Pureharvest oat milk is perfect for those who are lactose intolerant, but are not fans of the nuttier milks.

Pureharvest is available just about everywhere.
