NEWS UPDATE: HERNE BAY COURT RETIREMENT VILLAGE

At the end of December 2013 Canterbury City Council resolved to grant Bethel Retirement Villages planning approval for Herne Bay Court Retirement Village, subject to a set of conditions encompassed in a Section 106 document. The Section 106 agreement is almost completed and it is anticipated that Canterbury City Council will shortly issue the planning approval determination notice. Bethel is therefore now concluding the conditional agreed purchase of the site from its current owners. Based on the above assumptions, in early summer, the

off-plan property reservation programme will be launched. Properties will be offered fi rst to those who have previously registered interest in the village at events in Herne Bay and Canterbury, which are currently being organised to take place during the fi rst half of the month. The reservation scheme will then be opened to the general public. In June the Herne Bay Court on-site marketing suite will open, giving visitors the chance to see exactly what living at Herne Bay Court will be like. Construction is planned to start at the end of August. The fi rst units will be available for occupation in late 2015/early 2016. Herne Bay Court village will incorporate 117 one and

two-bedroom high quality, secure and adaptable residential Independent Living apartments and maisonettes, 45 Assisted Living care suites and a specialist on-site Dementia Care Unit with sensory garden areas.

The village will also have a club house, with library,

restaurant, bistro and IT suite, a health and wellness centre with indoor pool and spa and sports and leisure facilities including tennis courts, a French boules pitch and allotment. “It will provide a fabulous lifestyle community for over 55s, in beautiful fully-landscaped surroundings with access to fl exible support and personalised care for all. It’s exactly the type of property that we need to develop to enable older people to make the most of their retirement years,” said Norbert Baumker, Chairman of Bethel Retirement Group. Units are available on an outright purchase, shared ownership or lifetime rental basis. Off-plan indicative prices are expected to be in the range of £185,000 for a one- bedroom apartment and average £285,000 for a two-bedroom apartment, depending on time of purchase. Maisonettes are also available. • Anyone interested in purchasing, shared ownership or lifetime renting opportunities should register their interest via the website www.hernebaycourtvillage.co.uk or by calling the marketing offi ce on 0800 587 9909.

CELEBRITY TV CHEF JUDGES CARE HOME ‘BAKE OFF’

To mark Nutrition and Hydration Week, staff from Avante Care and Support care homes from around Kent took part in a ‘Bake Off’ competition with celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager judging the event. Avante Partnership, along with many other care providers across England, held afternoon tea parties to help raise awareness for good food provision and good nutritional care. Cakes were presented from a number of their care homes, with Rosemary and nominated residents judging them. Sophie Murray,

Avante’s Head of Nutrition and Hydration, said: “The staff were excited when Rosemary agreed to judge the ‘Bake Off’ event. “We have a

relationship with Rosemary as last year the cooks attended a specially-devised cookery course at the

celebrity’s cookery school on The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells. This was to help them in their work preparing a range of meals each day for residents, improving nutrition for those with dementia in residential care.” • Avante Care & Support is part of Avante Partnership, a registered charity established more than 23 years ago. The charity is the leading provider of specialist dementia care for the elderly. For more information, you can visit the website www.avantepartnership.org.uk
