Taking the bus


The Older Person’s Bus Pass entitles pensioners to free off-peak, local bus travel. To qualify you must reach the state pension age for women. Confused? Kent County Council (03000 418383 www.kent.gov.uk) or www.gov.uk/calculate-state-pension can help with any queries.

Eating out


You’ll need to ask, but many hotels, restaurants and pubs offer senior citizen discounts or special menus. For example, Little Chef’s Finetime card provides discounts for the over 50s – ask at any Little Chef for details.


Entertainment


Some cinema chains, including Odeon (www.odeon.co.uk) give cheap entry to senior citizens and help with restricted mobility, while Saga (www.saga.co.uk) offers discounted tickets to theatres and other attractions.


Getting fi t


You can’t beat walking, swimming and yoga amongst others as gentle but


effective forms of exercise. However, some gyms and leisure centres have specific packages for the benefit of more mature customers.


One such package is Primetime, offered


by Sencio’s Sevenoaks Leisure Centre (as well as other local centres) for customers aged 50+ while the over 60s pay £10 for extra discounts. Primetime customers can choose between more than 40 sessions a week (at certain times), including swimming, aqua fi t, yoga, the gym, gentle aerobics and the extremely popular, lower intensity Zumba Gold. Primetime’s co-ordinator Katie Lord oversees the Sports Hall activities on a Tuesday morning and believes completely in the power of exercise. “If it aches, move it,” she says. “We have a lot of laughs and our members organise regular lunches and trips out as well.”
