to complete prior to heading out; and last year it wasn’t any different. One of those chores included


readying the boat with all my toys, and making sure the boat keys were safely stowed away. Well, for some reason or another,


this latter task just wasn’t completed. I realized it when I lay in bed


in the early morning hours at my brother’s home in North Bay, thinking about the upcoming day’s activities. It had been our plan to save a little time on Saturday by going to Tim’s place Friday afternoon, complete some grocery shopping Saturday morning and be on Lake Temagami early that afternoon. Well, some idiot kiboshed all


of those plans with a nine-hour round trip drive from North Bay to Osgoode and back just to get some


keys. We didn’t get on the lake until 6 o’clock that evening. Having learned the difficult way,


my moral to this story is that you should purchase a spare set of boat keys and store them in that bucket. It cost me $120 in gas because of this little mistake. And our friends at Pirate Cove Marina charged me only $12 and change to purchase three extra keys – which I think is money well spent.


Tip #3: Don’t Let Your Catch Spoil Did you know that, according


to the Ontario Fishing Regulations, your possession limit is the number of fish you are allowed to have on hand, in cold storage, in transit, or anywhere? Furthermore, in most cases possession limits are the same as one day’s catch limit except where otherwise specified. It is also illegal to abandon fish or permit the flesh to spoil, if the fish is suitable for human consumption.


This spoilage can actually happen in your freezer if you leave it there long enough. With these factors in mind,
