Reverting to farmland!

The Norfolk Golf & Country Club sold by Savills for an undisclosed amount

SAD news coming out of East Anglia as we learned that the Norfolk Golf & Country Club which, when built in 1993, was

considered one of the best new clubs in the UK, has been sold. The 159 acre rural site, located in central north Norfolk, will revert to its original use as farmland and the clubhouse will be put to a suitable compatible use.

The club, advised by Savills, was on the market for £1.6 million.

Clubhouse will be used for ‘rural’ pursuits

Kay Griffiths, from Savills’ leisure team, said: “The conversion of the golf course back to farmland is a reflection of pressure that has been faced by some rural golf club owners who are subject to a lot of competition in a challenging economic climate.”

“In the case of the NGCC it was

concluded that, in light of declining income and continually-increasing costs, the golf and leisure business was no longer viable.”

The Club, which was owned by Kate and Ray Barlow, shut on Christmas Eve.

The identity of the new owner or the final sale price has not been revealed.

IF any readers are planning a trip to New York in the next month or so, then make an effort to visit the Trump Organisation building on Fifth Avenue, where you are likely to see a familiar magazine on display.

In the last issue of the Pitchare Magazine, there was a feature on the supply of turf to Donald Trump's new golfing

development at Balmedie, just north of Aberdeen. A few days after its publication, a telephone call was received at Pitchcare HQ from the office of Trump International-Scotland.

Mr Trump had seen the magazine and was so impressed he asked for fifty copies to be despatched to his main offices in New York. We, of course, obliged.

Trump that!
