Ecotec3 family. All power plants have been developed incorporating GM’s GenV small block design. This series of engines have variable valve timing (allows for different valve timing at different engine rpm and operating conditions to maximize performance); direct injection (injects gasoline directly into the combustion chamber of the cylinder and allows for the use of a higher compression ratio. This technology also improves torque, power and efficiency); and cylinder deactivation (senses load and power demand, then activates or deactivates four of the engine’s eight cylinders [two cylinders on V6] to meet driving conditions). GM’s 285-hp V-6 is not a car


engine adapted for truck use. This engine was built specifically to be in a truck. The large 4.3-litre displacement produces substantially more torque (305 lb – ft) than the competition’s naturally aspirated V-6s. For those who need a V-8, the


entry level engine is a 5.3 litre power plant generating 383 lb. of foot

torque with 355 horsepower. Later in the model year, a 6.2 litre/ 400+ horsepower engine will be added. All GenV engines have Jet-Spray


piston cooling where pressure- actuated oil sprays the underside of each piston and surrounding cylinder wall, providing an extra layer of oil. This reduces piston temperature and allows the engine to maintain maximum power while reducing engine noise. A smooth six- speed transmission accompanies all engines.


What Counts It’s not always what is visible


that makes the difference. Body on frame trucks lack the same stiffness in their frames as unibody cars and CUVs. This lack of rigidity is usually


most evident when a truck is carrying (or towing) its maximum load. When you look in the engine compartment of the 2014 Silverado/Sierra, you’ll see the cab has braced corners in the


engine compartment, and that the cab is mounted on the full box frame with new shear body mounts that limit the forward and rear movement that occurs when a truck is hauling or towing under full load. New larger and stronger axles


have been added for 2014 along with DuraLife brake rotors that are GM exclusive ferritic nitro- carburizing technology that hardens and strengthens brake rotors to prolong their life and protect against corrosion. The combination of lined front


wheel wells, triple sealed doors and acoustic laminated glass contributes greatly to the quiet of the cabin. The 2014 Chev Silverado/GMC Sierra is now at GM dealerships.
