Flying Monkey’s City & Colour Imperial Maple Wheat (13% ABV $13.95 750ml bottle LCBO) Flying Monkey’s second “Treble Clef” collaboration

(their first − a gorgeous Imperial Chocolate Stout made with the BareNaked Ladies − was easily one of the Top 10 new beers I sampled last year) included City & Colour front man Dallas Green in the brewery with them. Having already enjoyed both critical and financial

success with the venerable Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, Green has decided to focus solely on his much more melodic acoustic folk project − winning three more Junos and receiving Platinum and Gold Records for each of these efforts. Wildly bright eye-catching artwork typical of all the

Brampton brewery’s brews, this beer comes beautifully packaged in a box complete with liner notes (just like albums used to in the good old days). With an aggressive pour, the beer is a deep ruby amber with thick tan head and huge wafting aromas of maple syrup, pancakes and a hint of smoke (almost bacon like). It’s very breakfasty and desserty all at the same time. Thick sweet maple fills the mouth with burnt sugar, molasses, caramel, wheat and bourbon with a subtle smokiness/char at the very end.

It is surprisingly well-balanced, considering all these

massive sweet flavours up front. Boasting a solid full body, the carbonation is minimal. It finishes with a short pleasant lingering stickiness. Boozy, but not hot, this large format bottle it is perfect for sharing with friends − just like music. Wherever your beer travels take you, be sure to try

new brews whenever you get the chance. And remember: In Heaven There Is No Beer − That’s Why We Drink It Here. Please enjoy responsibly.

See You Next Year!

Thought we would run a few pics that didn’t make it in the mags this year.

Looking forward to year five in 2014 and hope to see you at one of the many events we plan to attend.
