Fin Tom Dixon

A round aluminium pendant light, Fin proudly exposes its inner workings, tak- ing usually invisible electrical compo- nents and making them integral to the design. The result is a self-contained piece featuring both a shade and light in one. Fin round is also available in blue and copper. www.tomdixon.net

Tolomeo Midi LED Artemide

An extension of the Tolomeo series, the Midi LED maintains the diminutive diffuser of the Tolomeo micro but in- creases the power to 10W and extends the structure and arms enabling it to be used on work tables and desks. Avail- able in classic aluminium finish and in the new anthracite grey. www.artemide.com

This year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile (to give it its full, and rather grand, title) ran in tandem with the Light + Building show in Frankfurt, leaving many manufacturers - those with a foot in both the architectural and designer worlds - to split their time shuttling between the two. Both events are bohemoths of their spheres, though Milan perhaps takes the prize for reaching out and including the many showrooms and independent venues across the city.

The 292,370 trade operators and 39,279 general public visitors descended on the city during the event, which will return on April 9-14, 2013. www.cosmit.it

Valentine Moooi

Marcel Wanders’ Valentine has a refined black, white, gold or chrome shell that encloses and frames ‘a meadow of light and sparkling glamour’ – a crystal clear blown glass, flower patterned interior. The pendant is available in a 29.5 x 35.5cm version or 18 x 21cm version, dubbed Baby Valentine. www.moooi.com

Coherence Daniel Rybakken

Coherence turns light into just another object you place on the table. The 10W LED light source illuminates a massive dome suspended above, diffusing and softly reflecting the light back to the table. It is a lampformed not only of multiple components, but by multiple objects too. www.danielrybakken.com

Nuage Foscarini

Designer Philippe Nigro drew inspiration from the Op Art movement of the 60s to create Nuage. It is designed to work on its own or placed in extravagant and flexible lighting compositions. Com- prising five overlapping modules with irregular, organic edges, it appears to float in the air, in a cloud-like accumu- lation of shapes. This wall lamp seems to transform depending on the view- point of whoever is observing it. www.foscarini.com
