Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program in Redding, CT Begins Sept 4th, 2012

M

indfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program combines the art and science of meditation to help you reduce stress,

promote physical health, and cultivate emotional well-being. MBSR is an eight-week program designed to introduce you to mindful- ness meditation practices and apply these practices in your daily life. The MBSR program was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the Stress Reduction Clinic, University of Massachusetts Medical Center. In the past 33 years, over 19,000 people have completed this program.

As much as an ancient art, Mindfulness meditation is also a science. Medical research has shown that the MBSR program can ease physical and emotional symptoms of general stress as well as chronic stress due to illness, such as cancer, depression, anxiety disorders, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, chronic pain, fatigue and a wide range of vascular, gastrointestinal, and psychological conditions. The benefits of mindfulness practice also include increased clarity and creative thinking, enhanced emotional stability, greater energy and inner peace.

Courses will be conducted in West Redding, CT on Tuesdays and in Pleasantville, NY on Thursdays, from 6.30pm to 9pm. Regis- tration including all materials and CDs is $350 ($295 if you register before August 10th). The class will be facilitated by Alisha Aum. She has practiced meditation and yoga for over 15 years and has com- pleted the professional training Practicum in MBSR at the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Saybrook Point Inn adds a New Spa Experience

he Saybrook Point Inn’s new spa experience, Sanno, opened June 21st. Marie Mozzi, who will direct Sanno, says she wants it to be a place neighbors will come with friends or alone. “I think a visit to a spa should nourish people,” said Mozzi. “Our goal is to help our guests be well, look well, feel well, eat well, and enjoy our spa as part of all the things they do to take care of their body and spirit.” Sanno will offer a full range of spa services, from massage to facials. Sanno will have its own entrance so that customers can park at the Inn’s parking lot, and come directly to the spa. Sanno’s opening comes on the heels of the opening of Fresh

Salt, the Inn’s Peter Niemitz-designed restaurant where chef Leslie Tripp is earning praise for his fresh food ideas. “We are a family owned Inn,” said Stephen Tagliatela. “We try to

always focus on what we can do best because we are family owned and live in this community. For us, the Inn is a business, but it’s also a way of life. The people who come here are often our own friends and neighbors. With Sanno, and with Fresh Salt, we are working to build places we want to share with friends and neighbors. We like that the Inn is becoming a place for people to gather.” Sanno is located in the Saybrook Point Inn at 2 Bridge Street, Old Saybrook.
