Editors Notes
February is always a funny auld month. With the end of the bird season, I found myself with a little more time than I was used to. Though being at home doesn’t mean being idle. As my other half tells me! Thankfully I was still going driven fox hunting on Sundays though we will be finishing on Paddy's Day. Our club has a lot of work to do this year be- tween vermin control both in fur and feather and preparing the area for releasing our birds. As with all clubs, we have plenty jobs to do and too few to do them. Why is it that some members of clubs want this or that but never do anything to help?
February has also seen a good start to the fishing season, with reports of good salmon being caught on the Blackwater and on the beats of Blackwater Lodge but more about them next month. For more information on Black Water Lodge you can see their ad on the last page of this magazine. Also large trout have also been caught on Lough Corrib for details go to page 72.
This month we also had a stand at the Irish Angling Show in Swords and what a weekend's fun was had. It was packed with loads of great offers. On the Satur- day night we had an exhibitor's party it was a great way for us all to meet each other as all too often we are too busy during the day to chat. I had a great chat with Hywell Morgan I was really impressed with how down to earth he is. His daughter Yasmin would put even the most seasoned fly caster to shame with her display casting. I also had a chat with John Wilson talking about growing up and watching him on TV meandering around the rivers and how it really got me hooked on fishing.
Through the drunken haze of the night (a little too much free wine was drunk) a challenge was set fishing a river, lake and sea though I’ll tell you more about that in the coming months as I remind the people involved.
