parallel beams of light. All attributes that help shape the lighting design at Avalon. Billy has high praise for Clay Paky: “They have always created impressive products. Italians have excessive passion in whatever they do and Clay Paky products have a lot of it. They are reliable fixtures, ease to use, have a user friendly interface and best of all it rarely breaks down so we don’t even need to play around with it.” The Clay Paky moving heads were supplied by Acoustic & Lighting System, the regional distributor for Clay Paky. Eugene Yeo, Assistant Sales Manager at Acoustic & Lighting System said: “It is fantastic to see Clay Paky lights installed in one of the most premier nightclubs in Singapore. It is becoming rare that people really appreciate high quality lighting effects especially in our region.” There were few changes to the lighting design along the way, one that was implemented by Billy was the decision to install Acme CM- 108 moving heads - which are extremely small, fast and powerful LED moving beams - with 12 DMX channels and an electronic strobe and effects built in. The CM-108’s feature an easy controller - CA-8 or CA-9RTX - which equips the light jockey with the ability to produce a very quick and simple light show in the touch of a few buttons. This is a useful feature for the live performances that take place at Avalon. Avalon Lighting Engineer, Mohd Aliff, required a state-of-the-art lighting desk to handle the multiple DMX universes utilised in the overall lighting scheme. A MA Lighting grandMA2 ultra-light console - with 26 units of MA2 port nodes - fitted the criteria perfectly. The grandMA2 ultra-light features 4,096 parameters and six DMX outputs. lighting genres, essential for the lighting set-up at Avalon, which includes moving heads, LED fixtures and strobes. And the console can handle an almost infinite number of presets, cues, pages, sequences and effects, a number of which are needed to ensure the club receives full lighting coverage at all times. Billy commented: “The grandMA2 is the industry standard. The console has extremely good network abilities, and options for lighting designers that many other boards don’t have. Best of it all is its stability. Also, a feature that I really love about the MA2 is the OPPS button.” Selecting a sound system that would live up to the high-end surroundings and continue to perform night after night was no easy task, but John had the answer. To ensure the audio set-up met the needs of a dance club, as well as a live performance venue, John required a flexible solution and so he turned to Fulcrum. Fulcrum’s Prophile Series was developed with creative and technical guidance from John himself, so he knew the products and their capabilities inside out. John’s goal when creating the loudspeaker system range was to develop a series of products that could be integrated into a variety of architectural motifs - an ideal example being the Crystal Pavilion - which made Fulcrum the only conclusive choice for this project. Steve said: “Basically John Lyons chose a custom built Fulcrum speaker and Crown amp system to adapt to the many challenges of the space. Placement was key to address all the issues that surround implementing a multi-room, multi-level venue. We had to develop a sound solution despite the fact we had very little to work with in terms of insulation or absorption.”
