******** Republicans should win
the White House, depend- ing who the GOP nomine is, maintain control of Congress and probably tie or lead in the Senate. America has had enough of this administration. But wait - there’s more! The Deficit Reduction Panel, six Democrats and
six Republicans were as- sembled to cut the deficit $1.2 trillion over ten years. Democrats refuse to sup- port spending cuts. Okay, here we go: “Republican Lamar Alexander recent- ly criticized Republicans for rigidly opposing any tax hikes.” And this guy wanted to be president. And this from MY U.S, Senator Kelly Ayotte R-NH: “When I voted against the debt ceiling legislation that created the ‘super committee,’ I noted that even if the panel met its statutorily imposed deficit reduction target, it still wouldn’t be enough to correct our reckless fiscal path. I’m deeply disap- pointed the panel couldn’t even achieve the bare min- imum in savings they were tasked with finding. “With our national debt
having soared past $15 trillion last week, this is a serious time for our coun-
try that requires all of us to rise above politics to do what’s right rather than what’s popular. At a time when we need to be working together, it’s unfortunate that the president has chosen to sit on the sidelines as the deficit panel has gone about its work. The days of business as usual spending in Washington must end, and Congress and the president now need to find the fortitude to take on the entire budget and deliver the necessary savings just to stabilize the debt.” ********
Citizens Against Gov- ernment Waste: “The Su- per Committee is just the latest example of politics getting in the way of com- mon sense in Washing- ton. There was never any reason to discuss raising taxes other than as part of a larger tax reform plan,
but Super Committee member Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) made it clear that he and his Demo- cratic colleagues were primarily concerned with making the rich pay more. Class warfare may make headlines, but it is bad policy, especially when polls show that Americans believe that Washington wastes more than 50 percent of fed- eral spending is wasteful. Furthermore, President Obama again abdicated any leadership role by being a non-participant in the Super Committee talks, just as he did a year ago, when he failed to fol- low up on his own deficit reduction commission. The budget charade that is drawing the country ever closer to a fiscal precipice is completely avoidable if only Congress would do its job and just spare a dime. ********

NH Union Leader by our friend Charlie Arlinghaus (Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy) titled “For Congress, Failure is
Always an Option” with his permission a few ex- cerpts. “The congressional super
committee was doomed to fail because failure was always an option. The politicians that we have the misfortune to be rep- resented by will always have trouble balancing the budget because they don’t have to balance the budget. The sooner we change that disincentive the sooner we turn off the road to financial ruin. “As part of the mediocre
budget adopted earlier this year, Congress created a Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction which the media quickly labeled the Supercommittee. It’s entire task was to find a fig leaf of deficit reduction so that the people we send to Washington could come back home and announce to all of us how serious they are.” “I say fig leaf because
the actual size of this re- duction would have been laughable. The so-called massive spending reduc- See ADVOCATES on 14
