Interestingly, the reasons cited behind choosing where in the world to study gave some unexpected results. 65.5 per cent of prospective graduate applicants see the international recognition of qualifications as an important factor when it comes to choosing a country. However, perhaps this is a little obvious and therefore misleading – it is more telling that 35.5 per cent do not consider it important, perhaps taking it as a given.


The second most frequently stated reason for choosing a country is cultural interest and lifestyle, with 59.5 per cent of prospective applicants considering it important. Eastern and Western Europeans particularly focussed on improving language skills, while receiving a scholarship is considered a significant factor in Africa/Middle East, Asia Pacific and India.


The report also examines topics such as what are the salary expectations of the candidates after the completion of their master’s or PhD degree or how many hours per week do they expect to work in order to achieve this (only 15 per cent of graduates expect to work a standard 40 hour week!)
