Homes & Gardens Changing Rooms?
During the early part of the 2000s, the explosion in the housing market was unprecedented, as house prices rose and keen buyers cashed in on the buoyant housing market. However, as the downturn started to bite and the bottom fell out of the property market, more and more people have decided to stay put, choosing to improve and enhance their current home instead. A large number of TV shows can
make this look really easy; take Kirstie’s Homemade Homes and Changing Rooms for example; in an hour they show you how to transform old and tired looking furniture and rooms into bright, new vibrant pieces and spaces that will be the envy of all your friends. But is it really that easy? A quick
search on the internet produces reams and reams of ‘how to’ sheets and “simple” diagrams, but after following an easy to follow step-by- step worksheet on how to make Roman blinds, I’m not so sure. It all
started so well until you need to create the pleats and pockets to hold the dowels, needless to say mine will not be taking pride of place! After evaluating what went
wrong, I decided that sheets and internet are fine but they only go so far; what I really wanted was to go and meet someone and learn from an expert face-to-face about what I should be doing and when I did go wrong, how to put it right. I also wanted to meet other people who felt the same as me and shared my passion for interior design and craft for the home and maybe make some new friends to share the trials and tribulations after the course. I am sure I am not the only one
who dreams of being a domestic goddess and making all my own curtains and blinds; painting my furniture to match my room and making fresh bread on a Sunday morning...
