New Hampshire Property Appeals
Process Unfair To The Editor: Hey, New Hampshire
property owners, get a load of this. The Board of Taxa- tion and Land Appeals (the BTLA) has ruled that if you appeal your assessments to them, it is perfectly okay for a town or asses- sor to use comparables against you that are two years and six months past the Assessment Date. You try getting away with that one. But wait, it gets even
OUR STORY
The Weirs Times was first published in 1883 by Mathew H. Calvert. The newspaper, then named Calvert’s Weirs Times and Tourists’ Gazette, was published until Mr. Calvert’s death in 1902.
One of the most remarkable features of the publication was a map of Lake Winnipesaukee which occupied the center spread of the paper. Readers will find the same map reprinted on the center pages of this, and every issue.
The new Weirs Times was re-established in 1992 and strives to maintain the patriotic spirit of its predecessor as well as his devotion to the interests of Lake Winnipesaukee and vicinity.
GOOD STUFF
Locally owned for over 17 years, this publication is devoted to printing the stories of the people and places that make New Hampshire the best place in the world to live. No, none of the daily grind news will be found in these pages, just the good stuff.

more absurd. If you have a view assessment of say, $275,000, as in my case, the town is allowed to take an adjustment of
$270,000 to increase the market value of their com- parable for its “LACK OF A VIEW.” Can you believe this?
The comparable property sold for $475,000, so, the $270,000 adjustment rep- resented 57% of the sales price. That adjustment plus others increased the market value of the town’s comp to $756,920. Wow! And remember, the New Hampshire DRA and the ASB have never issued a clear and concise defini- tion of what constitutes “a view.” What chance does an appellant have when this sort of unfair tactics is permitted? Let’s face it. This per-

will never change until the public is properly repre- sented on the BTLA with its own share of Public Members, as is the case on the NH Assessing Stan- dards Board.

Kimball For NH GOP Chairman
To The Editor: In Neil Young’s Dec. 30 column, he describes his political background then asks, “Where was Jack Kimball all the years I was involved?” I’d counter that Jack,

who hails from humble or- igins, was building - from scratch - a business that gainfully employs Granite Staters. And, like many of us in recent years, he was becoming increasingly alarmed at the decline of liberty and the rise of government by fiat at the hands of professional poli- ticians more dedicated to self and special interests than to the health of their states or America. But, unlike many others,
Jack rose off his couch and joined the Pease Greet- ers so that our valiant returning soldiers would never again experience the ingratitude and hostil- ity that greeted Viet Nam veterans when they came home. And then, when the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party sprang up to defend our liberties,
Jack threw himself into that grass roots move- ment. He energized many others to seeking to end the legislative insanity at this perilous point in our history. Mr. Young, do you sup-
pose journalists ques- tioned Paul Revere’s cre- dentials to sound the alarm that the enemy was coming? Was Thomas Paine discounted because he did not have a long distinguished career of rabble rousing? History records no such reac- tion. Our ancestors were grateful that men of stam- ina and courage departed from the norm and stood up to lead the fight. The time is past for rou-
tine stages of party loy- alty guaranteeing political plums. We have a rough road ahead of us to restore our republic to health. We need doers such as Revere and Paine. A self made man and
military veteran such as Kimball has been slugging it out in the real world. At one of the primary debates when Jack was running for governor, a lady was overheard saying of Kim- ball, “Why, he’s one of us.” Exactly! And that is why Jack Kimball will have my vote for state chairman of the N.H. GOP. Dangerous times call
for replacing career politi- cians with public servants willing to serve the repub- lic in its hour of need. Jack will support candidates who will be statesmen and stateswomen willing to work to get us back on course then happily re- turn to private life as did Washington and Reagan. Jack can motivate Granite Staters with his common sense approach that puts country first.
