The same day, Uptagrafft
won silver in Women’s Sport Pistol for the second Pan Am Games in a row, and this time she also claimed an Olympic quota with it. Michael McPhail (US- AMU/Darlington, Wisconsin) won silver in Men’s Prone Rifl e. The 2011 Pan Ameri- can Games champion and 2007 Pan Am Games silver medalist qualifi ed for the Final in second place with a score of 625.0 – just .9 points behind Cassio Rippel of Brazil. In the Final, how- ever, McPhail couldn’t catch Rippel from the beginning.
The U.S. team wrapped
the fi nal day of shooting competition at the Pan Am Games with four medals and two more Olympic quotas.
In Men’s Three-Position
Rifl e, both U.S. men quali- fi ed for the Final. In the second-to-last shot of the Final, Ryan Anderson (Wasilla, Alaska) actu- ally held a .2 advantage on George Norton (USAMU/ Salina, Kansas) in second, however, he was eliminated when Norton shot a 10.3 and he shot a 9.5 to take the bronze medal. Norton shot a 10.0 to Reynier Estopinan of Cuba’s 9.1 on the last shot, Norton couldn’t catch him and would take the silver medal. Since Estopinan had al- ready won a quota in Men’s Prone, he was ineligible for the quota in this event, which went to Norton. The fi nal event for shoot- ing – Men’s Skeet – saw an All-U.S. gold-medal match as Texas A&M college buddies T.J. Bayer (College Station, Texas) and Dustin Perry (Lovelady, Texas) faced off for the gold and silver medals. In the gold-
medal match, Bayer would shoot a perfect 16 targets to win the gold and the Olympic quota in this event. Perry took silver with his score of 14 targets. “We’ve been travelling
together pretty much the whole way through, since 2007,” said Perry. “It’s awesome to be able to train together, especially support- ing the same school — Texas A&M — and supporting each other everywhere we go.”
