2015 Pan American Games The U.S. Shooting Team
left the Pan American Games with 13 medals and fi ve Olympic quotas by the time the event wrapped in Toronto, Canada on July 26. The Pan American Games kicked off with fi ve- time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode’s (El Monte, Cali- fornia) selection as Team USA’s fl ag bearer for the Opening Ceremony. Prior to her gold-medal win at the Pan American Games this year in Women’s Skeet, Rhode had earned two gold
medals (2003 – Double Trap, 2011 – Skeet) and one silver (2007 – Skeet). Rhode was also the lone Team USA athlete to tie or break a World Record dur- ing Pan Ams. Rhode was the second shooter to serve as fl ag bearer for Team USA at the Pan American Games. Lones Wigger also carried the fl ag in 1975. Leading off the medals
on the fi rst day of competi- tion was Jay Shi (Phoenix, Arizona) who not only made his Pan Am Games and
international Finals debut, but also won silver in Men’s Air Pistol.
Earlier that day, Courtney
Anthony (Lexington, Nebras- ka) dominated the Women’s Air Pistol Qualifi cation, set- ting a Pan American Games record of 386 and defeating her nearest competitor by eight points. In the Final, however, Anthony would fi nish in seventh place. Sandra Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Alabama) would fi nish in eighth place. The following day, the
U.S. Pan American Shoot- ing Team came up with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Men’s Air Rifl e and Women’s Trap. The day kicked off with Men’s Air Rifl e athletes Bry- ant Wallizer (Little Orleans, Maryland) and Connor Davis (Shelbyville, Kentucky) fi nishing fi rst and third respectively in Qualifi cation. Wallizer set a Pan American Games Record with his score of 624.9 – more than six points ahead of his near- est competitor.
