CPD Talk it out and avoid heading to court >

Mediation is a better way of resolving disputes than heading to court. This

was the message at an Essex Centre event in November where Liz Repper, barrister and mediator at Keating Chambers, and Mark Borg, quantum expert at Hill International, were guest speakers.

Repper looked at why people might use mediation to seek to resolve their dispute. She explained that parties can reach solutions which courts cannot order; that it allows underlying issues to be addressed and protects confi dentiality. She also considered the recent cases on costs sanctions (because of a party’s unreasonable refusal to participate in alternative dispute resolution) and the question of whether a party can litigate its case proportionately. BIM and IT skills seem to be two important skills that are becoming increasingly important. We use engagement with industry representatives such as today’s event to help continually improve our course offering to best prepare the students for their future careers. We very much appreciate the CIOB and Hays coming along to speak to the students.”
