S.T.A.R.S. Top Female Age 6–10 Jessica

Kroetsch DETROIT SC, PRE-PRELIMINARY “I’d like to join the national team

and attend Olympics in the future. I

hope all of my training will help me to reach my goals. I like fluffy cute animals, and I love to draw and read. I walked on the Great Wall in July 2008 when I was 4 years old. I can speak fluent Chinese. I attended the Rhythmic Junior Olympics in July 2012 and won two medals.”

Top Performer: Pairs Cody Dolkiewicz

SC OF SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY, JUNIOR PAIRS “Last year I felt that I was set-

ting my benchmark and although I scored well, I knew that this year I wanted to beat last year’s score. The S.T.A.R.S. testing has given me a way to measure my fitness and car- dio levels. It has also allowed me to see a measurable improvement. The main goal that I am striving for right now is to become part of Team USA. I feel there is no greater honor than to hear the announcer say, ‘Now representing the USA is Gabriella Marvaldi and Cody Dolkiewicz.’”

Top Performer: Synchronized (Female)

Eri Lee CHICAGO FSC, JUNIOR SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

“I hope to skate for a top-level synchro team when I am in col-

lege, and hopefully represent the U.S. at the Olympics. I am a part of the founding class at Beacon Academy, the first Montessori-based high school in the Midwest. I like to play the guitar and sing, and I used to do pairs.”

Top Male Age 11–14

Caleb Wein WASHINGTON FSC, NOVICE ICE DANCE

“I’m a Washington Capitals and Balti-

more Ravens fan. I’m interested in paleon- tology. After skating, bobsled and hockey are my favorite winter sports. I really en- joy engineering and robotics at school. I also like playing viola. [S.T.A.R.S.] helped show me my strengths and the weakness- es I needed to work on. It helped me to focus on strength for lifts and flexibility for extensions.”

Top Performer: Ice Dance Danielle

Gamelin SC OF NEW YORK, SENIOR ICE DANCE

“I am competitive and work

hard to improve on my previous performance. Knowing that I will be tested and scored annually in S.T.A.R.S. makes me train harder because it gives me something to shoot for in measuring my overall athletic ability and improvement. The skating performance goal I am most focused on right now is qualifying for the International Se- lection Pool. Going to the gym has always been one of my passions. Outside of that, I enjoy bike riding, swimming and tennis. I really love exploring new nature parks and hiking in the woods. I absolutely love target shooting and I’m pretty good at it, if I say so myself. Pho- tography is one of my favorite hobbies. Give me a camera and some wilderness and I’m good to go. I enjoy driving cars with manual transmissions and my favorite car is the Lotus Exige S. I plan to own one someday.”

Top Performer: Synchronized (Male)

Stephen Murray BOURNE SC, NOVICE SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

“Overall, S.T.A.R.S. testing helped to show

where I needed to be stronger, which helped me overall with on-ice training and skating per- formance. My goals with skating performance is to be more agile and versatile on the ice, and to increase skill level and experience throughout all of my skating. Three random facts about me are that I’m pursuing an international baccalaureate degree at Sturgis Charter Public School, I really enjoy music by Safri Duo, and my favorite T-shirt has Suomi on it.”
