Buffalo Chip Toss winners announced

By Ambrosia Brody

TWO HARBORS — A large crowd cruised to Catalina Island to try and out-throw competitors in the 28th annual Jimmy Walker Buffalo Chip Toss, Aug. 30. Contestants were separated into

four groups — men, women, girls and boys — to compete for the top spot. The contestant who threw the farthest toss from each group was awarded a trophy and a gift card. Winners in this year’s competition

are: Nick McNally, in the Men 18 and over category, who threw his chip 162

feet, Paige, in the Girls 18 and Under category, who threw her chip 68 feet; Charles McIntosh, in the Boys 18 and Under category, who threw a chip 81 feet; and Bernadette Foote, in the Women 18 and Over category, who tossed a buffalo chip 84 feet. The lighthearted competition — taking advantage of the plentiful raw material provided by Catalina Island’s local bison population — was started by the late Jimmy Walker, who once served in the Two Harbors Harbor Patrol. Although Walker died several years ago, the event is held annually in his memory.
