Bringing the dark arts back to golf C
olorado-based club specialist Black Magic Golf has announced that its range of hybrid wedges
are now available in Britain, distributed exclusively by Planet Golf UK Ltd. “A recovery of sorts is rumoured to be
happening to the UK golf course sector but it’s patchy and confined for now to the higher-end destination courses,” says Planet Golf’s John Lewis. “New and exiled golfers who are looking to spend more time at golf clubs are going to be chasing equipment that gives them every chance of enjoyment by hitting the ball where they want it to go. “Black Magic Wedges deliver
precisely that type of performance. In their native US, club pros have these wedges flying out the door as players of all types are trying them, loving them and putting one or two or even more of them in the bag.”
Black Magic Wedges have what is
known as a ‘zero degree bounce’ angle at impact. The sharp leading edge will dig into the turf and sand but only so far, as the club moves forward it rides on a continuous bounce angle allowing players to still get under the ball with great control even if they mishit a little behind the ball.
There are five loft options from the approach wedge to the sand wedge:
37° Hybrid Wedge 48° Pitching Wedge 52° Gap Wedge 56° Sand Wedge 60° Lob Wedge

Ashworth gains momentum
A
shworth Golf has seen apparel sales grow by 42% and footwear sales grow by 30% in the first half of this year. Alongside this, the amount of Ashworth crested apparel has
grown by over 60% versus last year. These results have been delivered following the new Ashworth
distribution strategy that puts the green grass pro at its heart. Ash- worth is exclusively sold to on course pro shops which has allowed core golfers to reconnect with the brand. In conjunction with this, Ashworth Golf launched the Ashworth Partnership Programme which rewards customers for their support with free cresting, in store point of sale, team order discounts and other benefits. Andrew Law, Ashworth’s commercial director, commented: "We've
been delighted with the early results of the new Ashworth strategy. We have given the brand to the green grass pro and they have backed us and are now enjoying the results. We really appreciate and value this support in such a competitive industry and are committed to working hard to deliver more commercial success for our valued customers. “We will be continuing the on course only distribution into 2015 and also extending the number of ‘partners’ to allow more pros to enjoy the benefits of free cresting and in store displays.”
