Currently, the high street is subject to scrutiny with the government-commissioned Portas Report and the independently researched Grimsey Review making recommendations to repurpose the UK’s ailing town centres into functioning community hubs. It is against this background that franchisors have found ways to diversify how they reach their audiences; Although it’s not a particularly new concept, retail partnerships and sites- within-sites are a model that will need to be increasingly explored. See our Special Feature on the state of franchising in retail on page 36.

There’s plenty of sage and sound advice in this issue, with an expert panel answering your questions, training and marketing expertise from the industry, legal and fi nancial guidance and some insights into the forthcoming pension enrolment issue. Last, but very much not least, John Hancock of Venture Marketing Group gives his outlook on the current state and future of media and marketing within ethical franchising.
