PLAY MORE GOLF SCHEME Contents PGAE EXCLUSIVE FIRST WORDS

Although I’ll reserve overall judgement on the success of National Golf Month until aſter I have seen the full report, it’s hard not to feel slightly underwhelmed on first

glimpse. There were reportedly only 37,124 unique visits to the websites which for an advertising campaign reportedly reaching 23 million, has to be a poor return. I will not remain too downbeat however.

The idea itself was a good one and with better execution next time, there should be a higher rate of success I’m sure. Perhaps moving away from lapsed golfers and trying to target new players is key; aſter all, most sports have a natural dropout and take-up rate at any one time. It’s certainly worth persevering with

though and I’ll be back next month with an analysis of the final report. On a similar note, we bring you a feature

on England Golf’s ‘Play More Golf’ scheme which is an interesting read on how the national body is dealing with golf participation. For those at the Open, I look forward to

seeing you there. Enjoy the issue
