Honma UK reports record June Sales news
F
ollowing a record month in June, Honma (
www.honma.co.uk) is to meet prospective new retailers at this year’s Open Championship at Hoylake.
Retailers and custom-fitters in the Midlands, North East, South West
and East Anglia are being sought to help with the brand’s expansion. UK sales still account for only a fraction of the company’s global sales, which are heavily skewed towards the Far East where the brand is much better known. However, the brand has reported
strong Q2 sales with a 35% UK sales increase in June 2014 year on year. Since 2013’s introduction of the European-styled Tour World line,
and with the addition of the more traditional S-03 range in 2014, the re- introduction of the Honma brand to the UK is well underway. “With less than a dozen official stockists in the UK, some golfers
currently face quite a journey to try our clubs,” said the brand’s UK spokesman, Andy Hiseman. “This is particularly true for golfers in the Midlands, East Anglia, the South West and the North East, and we are particularly keen to meet potential retailers and custom-fitters from these areas, with a view to bringing the brand within a reasonable journey’s range for a fitting. “We would of course also be delighted to talk to trade enquiries from all areas – particularly at Hoylake later this month. “The last two weeks have seen a flurry of Honma orders placed at 3 Star level and beyond in the UK, with three different specialist Honma retailers each enjoying significant profits from those sales. If you are a golf retailer with a good number of high net worth individuals as customers – or if you have a strong relationship with good golfers who are seeking to spend a little more on improving their game – then taking on Honma is often a good idea, as once you have made a few sales the word-of-mouth as regards
the clubs’ performance is always extremely positive, to say the least.”

Golf retailers gear-up for The 2014 Ryder Cup with Official Merchandise
season as fans buy a new, expanded range of Official Merchandise. According to Tim Hunt,
T
marketing communications director at Ryder Cup Europe, demand for Official Merchandise ahead of the event at Gleneagles, September 26-28, is likely to reach record levels. “The Ryder Cup is one of the
biggest sports events in the world, attracting a global TV reach of more than 500 million homes. This rise in popularity is reflected in the level of consumer demand which, in 2014, we expect to be the highest ever for a Ryder Cup match in Europe. “As with all major international sports events, such
as the World Cup and Olympics, fans want to participate and show support for their team. So The Ryder Cup is a unique opportunity for the golf trade, especially for green grass golf retailers who are able to engage customers with distinctive, officially branded merchandise.” Paul Hedges, CEO of Foremost Golf, the UK’s
largest retail group, said: “We know what big business The Olympics and World Cup football have become

Bobby Jones returns
to Royal Liverpool Jones Global Sports, the owners of the
heritage golf brand Bobby Jones, has announced the opening of The Royal Liverpool Golf Club’s Bobby Jones ‘Shop in Shop’.
This is an apt addition to the concept
that the business is rolling out worldwide given that the golf club was the host venue for The Open that Jones won as part of his historic 1930 Grand Slam. John Heggarty, head pro at The Royal
Liverpool Golf Club said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the team at Bobby Jones this year. It’s such an exciting year for the Royal Liverpool Golf Club and it is fantastic to be reminded of the greats that have played and won on our course in previous Open championships.” The dedicated shop area has been
outfitted with specially commissioned furniture, pictures of Bobby Jones from the 1930 Grand Slam and a bespoke ‘Greatest of them All’ point of sale designed to commemorated the brand’s 25th Anniversary. In addition to the Bobby Jones
branding, a range of crested Royal Liverpool Bobby Jones garments are available to purchase.
