Cmdr. John J. Chernoski, USN (Ret), Life Member (joined 1996): After retiring from the Navy in 1996, Chernoski worked for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Division of Law. He retired in 2002 as a senior deputy attorney general. Chernoski is a past president of MOAA’s New Jersey Lakes and Pines and Green Valley (Ariz.) chapters. He serves on MOAA’s board of directors on its Member Services Committee. He also is active with the Arizona Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
1st Lt. Dorothy Davis, USA (Ret) (joined 1993): Davis graduated from the School of Nursing, University of Minnesota and, in 1977, earned a degree in business management from the University of Maryland. She served from 1944 to 1946 in the Army Nurse Corps, 57th Field Hospital, providing support during the Central Europe Campaign, Battle of the Bulge, Colmar Pocket, and Rhineland Campaign. She served for 60 years as a volunteer nurse with the American Red Cross, which in 2001 established the Dorothy Davis Spirit of Nursing Award in her honor.
Col. Mary Mayer, USAF (Ret), Life Member (joined 1995): Mayer is president of MOAA’s Portland (Ore.) Chapter and produces the chapter’s newsletter, The Brass Bulletin. She also is council secretary/treasurer of MOAA’s Oregon State Council of Chapters. Mayer serves as chair of the Advisory Committee to the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs. She also is on the board of directors for the American Association of University Women of Oregon, the Oregon World War II Memorial Foundation, and the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra.
Col. Bob Moore, USA (Ret), and Vicki Moore (joined 1991): Bob and Vicki run their church’s Caring Ministries, a program that offers grief counseling, meals ministry, transportation ministry, hospital visits, and senior care visits to help members of their community. Bob and Vicki also are active in the HEROES Care program, through which they support local military families. In addition to volunteering, Bob and Vicki also run a bed-and-breakfast in Virginia.
