or volume measurement has to overcome many challenges across a wide spectrum of industries. The pre-requisites of accuracy, ease-of-installation and flexibility are essential for meeting the important liquid and solids level measurement requirements present in the oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage sectors.


ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY Level measurement solutions often have to operate within harsh environments, deal with problematic materials and have to access difficult locations. When accurate and timely measurement objectives have to be met, reliable measurement solutions are key to helping achieve strategic operational targets. It is the need to deliver both accurate


level measurement and on-going operational benefits that lies behind the development of the latest series of Siemens Industry’s guided wave radar transmitters – the new SITRANS LG series. The modular design of the four basic versions in the series offers numerous configuration options. They are capable of satisfying the wide variation seen in industry for level measurement solutions, which can range from working with

aggressive materials through to use within hygienic laboratory conditions – while at all times complying with SIL2 safety standards.


HYGIENIC SOLUTIONS The SITRANS LG240 stainless steel rod option has been specifically formulated to operate within the stringent hygienic environment typically found in the highly regulated pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries. Here, compliance with necessary safety objectives is critical and adherence to the requirements of EHEDG, FDA and 3A certificates is paramount. While delivering this


effectively, the device is designed for use where foam, aggressive vapours or material build-up are typical operating conditions. In addition, it is ideal for where space is at a premium and measurement is required within small vessel sizes. Cleaning needs are satisfied with the autoclave version, which ensures the instrument housing can be quickly and easily removed. Also available is the SITRANS


The SITRANS LG series deliver accurate level measurement and on-going operational benefits


LG250 version, which has been developed to satisfy the particular needs of general industry. This offers a range of features including 2mm accuracy, a flexible probe option suitable for most level applications, cable lengths up to 75m, as well as secondary barrier options for protection against aggressive materials including ammonia. The LG260, meanwhile, accurately


measures levels of solids, granulates and powders even with the extreme dust seen, for example, within the plastics industry. Continuous probe condition monitoring ensures operational safety and application reliability. The LG270 version takes operational efficiency performance


in harsh or extreme conditions to another level. Its strong construction with a dual seal to ensure integrity in tough


applications supports its ability to deal with high or low pressures or wide ranging temperature factors, as well as environments where, for instance, steam is prevalent. This will safely and efficiently operate within high temperatures up to 450˚C or high pressures up to 400 bar – unforgiving operating conditions often seen in the chemical or petrochemical industries.
