TaylorMade Golf introduces SLDR Irons

the iron category with the introduction of the SLDR iron – engineered for golfers seeking a traditional clubhead in terms of shape, size and finish, combined with TaylorMade’s Speed Pocket technology. First featured in the

T

RocketBallz fairway woods and Rescue Clubs, and later adapted for the RocketBladez and SpeedBlade irons, the SLDR iron’s Speed Pocket, with new ThruSlot Technology, is characterised by a 2mm-wide slot cut high up behind the clubface. This ThruSlot enables a large area of the face to flex and rebound at impact, resulting in a faster ball speed, a higher launch angle, strong ball flight and a steep, quick stopping descent angle. “Golfers want to hit their irons

far, which has put us on a path to engineer iron sets that have driver-like face speed,” said Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade’s director of Product Creation for Irons, Putters and Wedges. “To find that speed, we created ultra-thin faces, introduced Inverted Cone Technology and now an enhanced Speed

aylorMade Golf Company has expanded its SLDR equipment into

Pocket with ThruSlot Technology. The ThruSlot extends all the way through the bottom cavity, and works in conjunction with the ultra-thin clubface and deep undercut to promote face-flex at impact.” In addition, ThruSlot

Technology promotes a higher ball flight, longer carry distances and more consistent gapping between irons than the older versions of the Speed Pocket. The SLDR iron’s sound and

feel comes from an advanced vibration-dampening system that includes the polymer that fills the Speed Pocket and a shock-absorbing badge positioned in the back cavity. The Speed Pocket is found in the soles of the SLDR 3-7 irons. As a result of the SLDR iron’s

classic shaping, slim topline and thin sole, the company anticipates strong interest from its PGA and European Tour Professional staff. SLDR irons will become

available at retail through TaylorMade Golf Tuned Performance Centres on 6th June 2014.

An Albartross hits the streets

contemporary spikeless shoes for men (ladies' versions will be available January 2015), retain the design attributes that established the UK brand as the luxury golf shoe worn by the likes of model Jodie Kidd, actor Dougray Scott, Aussie cricket legend Shane Warne and TV sports presenter Dan Walker.

@TaylorMadeGolf Alex Bartholomew, the designer and founder of

the brand, explained: "We had received a number of enquiries from existing Royal Albartross customers, both individuals and retailers, with regards to a ‘street-style' version of our shoe. "Further market research indicated that there

would indeed be a demand for street-sole shoes with the trademark Royal Albartross attention to detail. Many of the brands out there offering similar shoes appear to regard their product as only one step up from disposable - but we've steered away from that to keep our familiar technical and design traits, with superior comfort soſt leathers, to again offer an upmarket British-designed, Italian-made golf shoe. "The shoes look and feel amazing and retailers

have really gone for them in a big way. We believe we've created the ideal, casual, affordable and stylish spikeless golf shoe. And, so far, they have been very well received by everybody who's seen them."

In a first for Royal Albartross, the brand has

partnered with sole-specialist Vibram for the development of a golf-specific insole design. The full-grain Italian calf leather uppers have a waterproof treatment and an interior waterproof membrane to keep feet dry in the wettest conditions.
