NCGA’s Ryan Gregg Aces USGA Rules Exam I

t’s been compared to the bar exam in difficulty. In January, NCGA Director of Rules and Competitions Ryan Gregg

scored a perfect 100 on the USGA Rules of Golf exam. While the number and percentage

varies from year to year, USGA statistics show that on average only 1% of exam takers ace the 100-question test, which is given at the conclu- sion of one of the association’s annual three-and-a-half- day Rules of Golf workshops. “I’m around the

100 PERFECT

rules every day,” said Gregg, who scored a 99 in each of his previous five attempts. With his score, the director of Rules

and Competitions since last July, joined an elite group of past NCGA rules gurus who have aced the test. They include former Director of Education and Rules and current NCGA board member Gail Rogers and former Junior Tour of Northern California Tournament Manager John Van der Borght. NCGA Assistant Director of

Rules and Competitions Ryan Farb, just missed a perfect score with a 98. In a sign that he could be next in line for perfection, it was Farb’s second straight 98. All examinees scoring 92 or higher

receive a special USGA certificate show- ing that they demonstrated a strong knowledge of the Rules of Golf.
