Inge Theron 2. Rise of the microgym

The trend now storming the fitness industry is for microgyms – community-driven, boutique fitness studios offering targeted, training options. Gone is the desire for ‘quantity’ of equipment – it’s expensive and a hassle to maintain, offering poor results compared to ‘quality’ strength, gravitational and suspension training found in microgyms, such as Barre Core, Micro Boxing and Fly, or anti-gravity, yoga. These use minimal equipment to promote natural movement and functional training. Granted, some microgym concepts rely on specific cardio equipment for their classes, such as Soul Cycle, Ten Pilates and Barry’s Bootcamp (pictured right) but this is used for interval-style training in conjunction with strength training for a higher intensity workout. Some microgyms offer combination training such as Heart Core, which blends TRX, Pilates and kettlebell training in small group classes, and such classes are developing almost cult-like followings. The combination of diverse workouts, personalised attention and amazing, quick results is one people are willing to pay for even in a tough financial climate.

3. Spa pop-ups

We are all familiar with the ‘pop-up’ concept and many of us are now regular ‘popper-uppers’, participating in glamorous re-tox options, such as seven-course dinners at the French Laundry at Harrods or the recent Bocca Di Lupo Italian feast in association with The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park. Now look out for an über detox spa pop-up near

you, such as the Elemis Treatments on Tour Spa Bus (pictured left). Also expect global grande dames of spa to enter short-term relationships with top European destinations, offering clients a way to slim down and rejuvenate without adding extra air miles. During the course of my work for both leading detox clinic Henri Chenot and Grace Belgravia medi-spa, I identified the perfect pop-up opportunity for the former in the latter, available to members and non-members. Grace Belgravia is the only medi-spa in the UK to utilise Henri Chenot’s gene science Detox Cosmetique range in its aesthetic treatments.
